CITY TO STUDY NEW TRANSPORTATION TECHNOLOGIES
CONNECTING THE ANAHEIM RESORT AND PLATINUM TRIANGLE AREAS TO ARTIC

The fixed-guideway project will be kicked off with a public information meeting on April 29

ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 22, 2009) — The City of Anaheim is pleased to announce the launch of an exciting new study for improved mobility choices for residents, workers and visitors of the Anaheim Resort and Platinum Triangle areas.

"As one of the most highly visited cities in the U.S., Anaheim needs a world-class transportation system," said Mayor Curt Pringle. "Our vision is to employ modern transportation technologies to improve mobility for residents, workers and visitors – allowing Anaheim to remain a preferred destination."

The City will host an informational meeting to introduce the project on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for the ARC project, a proposed high-capacity transportation system that will link Orange County’s "backbone" Metrolink commuter rail system at the planned Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) to the City’s major employment and activity centers. The meeting format will include a brief presentation at 10:00 a.m., followed by an open house from 10:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

In 2007, the City of Anaheim developed a Transit Master Plan based on a technical study and public feedback gathered from the community. The Master Plan addresses current and future mobility needs in the City and provides a guide to the development and implementation of transit projects over the next 25 years.

One of the strategies identified in the Transit Master Plan is a fixed-guideway connection from ARTIC to the Platinum Triangle and The Anaheim Resort. The City is now studying various alignments and technologies for the fixed-guideway project, and is seeking public input.

This meeting is intended to:

  • Present the existing and future transportation needs and issues in the study area
  • Solicit input on the Purpose and Need and the Goals and Objectives of the project
  • Discuss the alternatives analysis and environmental study process and schedule, including opportunities for public participation
  • Seek input and feedback on a long list of potential alignment and technology alternatives
  • Define the desired transit system attributes from a community and stakeholder perspective
  • Build community awareness of the project

"We’re very excited about this study, as it has the potential to vastly transform and improve mobility in the resort area, connecting from the planned ARTIC station," said Natalie Meeks, City of Anaheim Public Works Director. "A fixed-guideway system would use state-of-the-art technology to give residents, workers and visitors a superior choice for mass transportation."

This public meeting will be held at Anaheim City Hall West in the Gordon Hoyt Conference Room, 201 South Anaheim Boulevard, Anaheim. For more information, please contact our hotline at (877) 865-6618, or via e-mail at info@anaheimfixedguideway.com.
