Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1:
What is the ARC Project?
Answer for question 1:

The primary purpose of the ARC project is to provide safe, convenient, frequent, and easy-to-navigate connections in the heavily traveled east-west corridor between the Platinum Triangle and the Anaheim Resort for residents, employees, and visitors.

The project is envisioned to operate as a high-capacity system, providing convenient and efficient transfers to Metrolink, Amtrak, local bus, and future bus rapid transit and high-speed train services connecting at ARTIC. This connection will link Orange County’s “backbone” Metrolink commuter rail system to Anaheim’s major employment and activity centers in the Platinum Triangle and The Anaheim Resort.

Question 2:
What alternatives will be studied?
Answer for question 2:

The study will comparatively evaluate a No-Build Alternative, a Transportation System Management (TSM) Alternative, a Semi-Exclusive At-Grade Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Alternative, and an Elevated Fixed-Guideway Alternative (with alignment variations and technology options).

Question 3:
What does “fixed-guideway” mean?
Answer for question 3:

A “fixed-guideway” describes a system where transit vehicles operate on a dedicated alignment, such as rail or track. There are a variety of fixed-guideway technologies that could operate on this type of alignment such as monorail, automatic people mover, low-speed magnetic levitation, and personal rapid transit.

Question 4:
Where will the ARC go?
Answer for question 4:

This study will define an alignment for the guideway system that will connect the planned ARTIC station and The Platinum Triangle to The Anaheim Resort. This connection will address transportation issues and challenges related to highway congestion, transit, population and employment, parking demand, and air quality in the corridor. It will extend the reach of the Metrolink system.

Question 5:
What is the purpose of this study?
Answer for question 5:

The purpose of the ARC Transit Corridor Study is to determine a preferred route and technology alternative through a detailed evaluation process, and to obtain the required environmental approval. This will enable the project to competitively apply for the next phase of funding through the OCTA’s Go Local and Renewed Measure M programs, as well as other state, federal and private funding sources for design and implementation.

Question 6:
How can I participate in the study process?
